RHINOPLASTY

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as a "nose job," is a popular cosmetic surgery in Turkey aimed at improving both the appearance and function of the nose. Before surgery, you and your surgeon will collaborate to determine the most suitable shape for your nose. Rhinoplasty not only addresses aesthetic concerns but can also correct breathing issues, ensuring you achieve a nose that looks and functions well. Your doctor will provide all the necessary information about the procedure. If you need further clarification or a simpler explanation, feel free to ask!

Who is Eligible for Rhinoplasty?

Plastic surgery for the nose, commonly known as rhinoplasty, is a procedure designed to address various aesthetic and functional concerns related to the nose. People seek rhinoplasty for different reasons, including:

    1. Nose Size and Shape: If your nose is too large, long, or not in harmony with your facial features, rhinoplasty can create a more balanced appearance.

    2. Nasal Hump Correction: A hump on the nose bridge can be smoothed out during surgery.

    3. Correction of Asymetrical Noses: Rhinoplasty can straighten a crooked nose, enhancing both its appearance and function.

    4. Nostril Problems: Wide or asymmetrical nostrils can be refined through rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty is accessible to anyone in good health who wants to improve their nose. Our objective is to suggest the most appropriate procedures to achieve both a healthy and visually appealing result. If you're thinking about undergoing rhinoplasty, it’s essential to consult with a skilled surgeon to go over your specific needs and expectations. A well-executed rhinoplasty can significantly enhance your confidence and overall sense of well-being.

In What Situations Should Rhinoplasty Be Recommended?

Rhinoplasty can have both aesthetic and health benefits:

Cosmetic Improvements

  • Rhinoplasty can significantly enhance your appearance by reshaping the nose. Whether you’re looking for a smaller, straighter, or more refined nose, this procedure can achieve those goals.
  • Think of it as giving your nose a stylish upgrade!

Medical Considerations:

  • Rhinoplasty isn’t just for cosmetic purposes; it can also resolve health issues related to nasal blockages.
  • For people with significant intranasal or extranasal deviations (where the inside or outside of the nose is noticeably misaligned), rhinoplasty might be required.
  • Even if you don’t have cosmetic concerns, addressing these deviations can enhance your breathing.
  • Think of it as clearing a blocked airway!

Whether your goal is a more attractive nose or better breathing, rhinoplasty can be a transformative procedure.

What are the Different Types of Rhinoplasty Surgery?

There are two main techniques in rhinoplasty:

1) Closed Rhinoplasty:

  • No external incisions are made between the nostrils.
  • All incisions are inside the nose.
  • This method preserves the natural structures of the nose better.

2) Open Rhinoplasty:

  • An external incision is made between the nostrils, along with internal incisions.
  • The nasal skin is lifted to access the bone and cartilage.
  • After surgery, sutures close the incisions.

In summary, closed rhinoplasty involves internal incisions, while open rhinoplasty includes an external incision for more extensive adjustments.

What to Consider Before Undergoing Rhinoplasty:

Before undergoing rhinoplasty, consider the following:

  1. Medical History Disclosure: Inform your surgeon about any medical conditions, medications, or allergies you have.
  2. Blood Fluidity: Discontinue certain drugs and foods that affect blood fluidity at least one week before surgery.
  3. Smoking and Alcohol: Quit smoking at least two weeks before surgery and avoid alcohol for one week prior to ensure better healing.
  4. Menstruation: Surgery can be performed during your menstruation period with your doctor’s approval.
  5. Surgery Day Preparation:
  • Arrive at the hospital after fasting for the recommended time (usually 6-8 hours).
  • Take a warm shower the night before surgery.
  • Remove metal jewelry and nail polish, and avoid shaving or wearing makeup on the day of surgery.

What Things Should Be Considered upon Rhinoplasty?

To ensure a smooth recovery, consider the following:

  • Daily Activities: You can return to daily activities after 3-4 days.
  • Showering: Take a warm shower from the second day without wetting the nasal plaster or bands.
  • Physical Activity: Light exercises and walking can resume in the second week, but avoid strenuous activities for the first month.
  • Edema Prevention: Avoid saunas, Turkish baths, solariums, sunbathing, steam baths, the sea, and swimming pools for one month to prevent edema.
  • Sun Exposure: Avoid sun exposure or wear a hat for at least two months, and use a high SPF sunscreen.
  • Oral Hygiene: Use mouthwash from the first day and brush your teeth with a soft toothbrush from the second day.
  • Nasal Care: Change dressings under the nostrils until bleeding stops and apply sea water spray, hydrogen peroxide, and antibiotic cream 4-5 times a day.
  • Sleeping Position: Sleep with your head elevated for the first 48 hours.
  • Ice Packs: Applying ice packs on the eyes for the first 48 hours helps reduce swelling.
  • Hydration: Drink plenty of water.
  • Avoid Blowing Your Nose: Refrain from blowing your nose for two weeks after surgery.
  • Sneezing: If you need to sneeze, do so with your mouth open.
  • Lifting: Avoid lifting heavy objects for two weeks.
  • Driving: Do not drive for the first two weeks.
  • Massage: Facial massage after rhinoplasty can reduce edema and accelerate healing. It is most effective within the first six months after surgery.
  • Contact Lenses: You can wear contact lenses on the third day after surgery.
  • Glasses: Lightweight reading glasses or frameless glasses can be worn after two months, and sunglasses after three months. If necessary, use the provided nose plaster to wear glasses in the first two months.

What is the best season for undergoing rhinoplasty surgeries?

Rhinoplasty Surgery in Summer: Guidelines and Recommendations
Rhinoplasty can be performed year-round, but special precautions are needed during warmer months:

  1. Sun Protection Measures: Sweating can affect the nasal cast, so avoid direct sunlight, use sun protection creams, and wear a hat.
  2. Refrain from Wearing Sunglasses: Refrain from wearing sunglasses for about six months after surgery to prevent them from affecting your nose’s shape.
  3. Permission for Swimming Pool Activities: Avoid swimming pools during recovery to prevent infections. Consult your doctor before resuming swimming.

Remember, each person’s healing process is unique, so always follow your surgeon’s specific instructions for a successful recovery.

Rhinoplasty procedures in Turkey are usually performed under general anesthesia to ensure patient comfort and safety. However, for less extensive surgeries focusing on the nasal tip, local anesthesia might be used. The choice of anesthesia varies depending on the complexity of the surgery and the specific needs of the patient.

The duration of rhinoplasty surgery varies based on the procedure's complexity. Moderate-sized operations using the open technique take about 2.5 to 3 hours, while the closed technique may take 3 to 3.5 hours. Revision surgeries involving rib cartilage removal may take longer.

The use of tampons in nasal surgeries is a common concern. Nowadays, traditional tampons are rarely used. Instead, silicone tampons are placed inside the nose during surgery. These tampons prevent adhesion between the inner and outer walls of the nose. They are soft, flexible, and can be painlessly removed, typically on the 3rd or 4th day after surgery.

Most patients do not experience intense pain after rhinoplasty. Some may feel a slight burning sensation or pressure, but these discomforts are manageable with occasional painkillers. Significant pain is not common.

Turkey is among the top five countries globally for cosmetic and aesthetic procedures, offering a full spectrum of surgical and non-surgical treatments.
