Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty, commonly known as eyelid surgery or cosmetic eyelift, is Dr. Demir’s most frequently performed cosmetic procedure. This minimally invasive surgery aims to restore a youthful and vibrant appearance. It can be done with minimal sedation or local anesthesia. Although it is generally considered straightforward, blepharoplasty requires the expertise of a specialist to achieve optimal results.

Despite its prevalence and the general perception that it involves merely removing excess skin and fat from the eyelids, blepharoplasty demands a deep understanding of eyelid anatomy. Improper removal of skin, muscle, or fat can lead to significant complications. An expert surgeon must skillfully manage fat repositioning, create a natural eyelid crease, correct weakened eyelid muscles (ptosis repair), tighten the eyelid corners (canthoplasty), and have a keen eye for aesthetic results. A consultation with Dr. Demir will help you understand which procedures are suitable for your needs.

  • Upper Blepharoplasty

Upper eyelid surgery aims to lift the eyelid, making the eyes appear more open and alert. It may also be necessary for medical reasons if drooping eyelids obstruct vision.

  • Lower Blepharoplasty

Lower blepharoplasty, or eye bag surgery, seeks to minimize the appearance of eyelid bags and address hollows around the eyes (e.g., dark circles). Instead of removing excess eyelid fat, Dr. Demir redistributes it to fill depressions, smoothing out irregularities and restoring youthful contours.

  • Aesthetic Ptosis Correction

Ptosis repair is a specialized surgery to correct drooping upper eyelids by tightening the levator muscle responsible for lifting them. The procedure can be performed externally or internally, based on a detailed preoperative evaluation. Incisions are usually made within the eyelid and are not visible after recovery.

Ptosis refers to the drooping of the upper eyelid, which is different from excess skin, fat, or muscle addressed by blepharoplasty. In ptosis, the eyelid margin may drop to a level that impairs vision. Insurance coverage for ptosis repair may be available if visual obstruction is demonstrated through photographic evidence and visual field testing. Otherwise, the procedure is often considered elective and performed for cosmetic reasons.

Ptosis can result from congenital factors, age-related muscle weakening, eyelid growths, or neurological conditions. Age-related ptosis commonly arises from natural muscle or tendon weakening.
